Can I use Black Silk Hair Removal in the bikini or pubic area?

Black Silk Hair Remover is safe and gentle enough to treat the pubic/bikini area. Please find advice for both females and males below.

Females

For females, Black Silk Hair Remover is safe and gentle enough to treat the entire bikini area: the bikini line, mons pubis, labia majora, perineum. So if you want a Brazilian or a Hollywood, go right ahead!

To prevent discomfort, we advise you to treat the inner thighs and buttocks with a lower setting, as this skin can be more pigmented so might be more sensitive.

IPL is not suitable for the 'inner parts' of the bikini area, therefore you should never use Black Silk Hair Remover on the labia minora, vagina or anus.

Males

For males, Black Silk Hair Remover is safe to treat pubic hairs. Nevertheless, Black Silk Hair Remover cannot be used on the whole genital area (pubic bone and scrotum) or anus.

Can I use Black Silk Hair Removal in the shower or bath?

Your Black Silk Hair Remover is not waterproof. Any contact with water can damage its machinery. Therefore, do not use your Black Silk Hair Remover while taking a shower or a bath. Also, make sure your skin is completely dry before using Black Silk Hair Remover

Black Silk Hair Remover is not intended for children under the age of 18 years. Please supervise children to ensure that they do not play with your Black Silk Hair Remover device.

How is Black Silk Hair Remover different from professional hair removal treatment?

If you would like to find out how Black Silk Hair Remover is different from professional hair removal treatments, you can find your answer here.

Professional IPL treatment vs at-home treatment with Black Silk Hair Remover

The technology that Black Silk Hair Remover uses is based on IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), which is also used in professional salons. We have adapted this technology for safe and effective use at home.

The IPL technology works by heating up the pigment (melanin) in the hair and hair root underneath the skin. This stimulates the hair follicle to go into a resting phase. This causes hair to shed naturally and inhibits further hair growth.

Salons use a very high-intensity light for this procedure, which can be painful. Whereas, the flashes released by Black Silk Hair Remover are much gentler. However, both treatments give the same hair removal results.

100% permanent hair removal is highly unlikely, regardless of whether you use IPL at your home or at a salon. You will always require regular maintenance to keep your skin fully hair-free.

Is Black Silk Hair Remover safe for me and my skin?

At Black Silk Hair Remover, your safety always comes first. Black Silk Hair Remover has been developed with leading dermatologists and fulfils all safety regulations for home use.

Intense Pulsed Light

Black Silk Hair Remover uses an innovative light-based technology called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), derived from the technology used in professional beauty salons.

Black Ldn has adapted this technology for effective use in the comfort of your own home. Black Ldn worked closely with skin care experts to develop this technology.

Safety First

Black Silk Hair Remover only flashes when it is in full contact with the skin. The integrated UV filter ensures that the light only affects the hair and not the skin. If your skin is too dark, the skin colour sensor prevents the device from flashing.

To get used to Black Silk Hair Remover, we recommend that you first make test flashes near the area you are intending to treat and continue with the highest setting that still feels comfortable and does not give side effects.

We recommend using the Black Silk Hair Remover in a well-lit room.

Side Effects

• Your skin may show slight redness and/or may prickle, tingle or feel warm. This reaction disappears quickly.

• Your skin may get dry or itchy. You can treat this by cooling the affected area with an ice pack or a wet face cloth. If dryness persists, you can apply a non-scented moisturiser as well.

Can Black Silk Hair Remover be used by men too?

Yes. Black Silk Hair Remover has been optimised for use by women, but can be used by men as well.

Works on men

Recent research shows that men could use Black Silk Hair Remover on most areas of the body, except the beard (due to different hair type, thicker and coarser hair), the whole genital area (pubic bone and scrotum) and anus.

How often should I use my Black Silk Hair Remover?

If you would like to know how often you should treat your skin with Black Silk Hair Remover, find out the answer in the lines below.

Every 1/2 weeks

We recommend treating your skin with Black Silk Hair Remover once every 1/2 weeks for the first two months.

Do I need to keep using Black Silk Hair Remover once my skin is hair-free?

To maintain hair-free skin, we recommend repeating the Black Silk Hair Remover treatment every four to eight weeks. This will keep your hair roots inactive and prevent hair from growing back.

Why do I need to remove hair before using Black Silk Hair Remover?

IPL is successful on hair-free skin

For the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment to be successful, the light from your Black Silk Hair Remover should reach the hair root. There it heats up the pigment (melanin) and stimulates the hair follicle to go into a resting phase. As a result, hair starts to shed naturally and further hair growth is restricted.

What happens if I don't remove hair before using my Black Silk Hair Remover?

If you use Black Silk Hair Remover while you still have hair on your skin, the light from your device may burn these. This can result in an unpleasant smell and damage your Black Silk Hair Remover.

I don't have many hairs left on my skin. Do I still need to remove them?

Pre-treatment (removing hair from your skin) is only necessary while you still have visible hair on your skin surface.

Is Black Silk Hair Remover suitable for all skin and hair types?

Black Silk Hair Remover is not suitable for all skin and hair types. Find out here which skin tones and hair types Black Silk Hair Remover is suitable for.

Skin tone and hair suitability for Black Silk Hair Remover

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment works when the energy of the light is absorbed by melanin (a type of pigment) in the hair. Since light blonde, grey and white hair do not contain enough or any melanin, IPL treatment will never work on these hair colours. Red hair contains a different type of melanin, which is also not responsive to IPL.

Black Silk Hair Remover is also not suitable for dark skin tones, as it can cause skin damage such as burns, blisters or discolouring.

How many flashes does my Black Silk Laser have?

Our IPL handset has 600,000 flashes!

14) No, it isn't necessary to wear eye protection while using our handset.  Our handset is fitted with a sensor and will never pulse unless the entire flash window is pressed against your skin. This is to protect your eyes from the bright light produced from the handset. That being said you should never try and look directly into the light as it flashes.
